DFI opens recruitment process for new Chief Executive Officer

The Disability Federation of Ireland is seeking to recruit a new Chief Executive Officer in 2024 to succeed outgoing CEO John Dolan. John has been CEO with the DFI since the year 2000. 

About DFI

The Disability Federation of Ireland (DFI) is a federation of member organisations working with others to achieve a vision of an Ireland where people with disabilities are participating fully in all aspects of society. Our mission is to work with people with disabilities to implement the UN CRPD and ensure their equal participation in society. DFI core values include Inclusion, Respect, Voice, Social Justice and Autonomy.

The Role 

Reporting to the voluntary Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing the organisation's strategic direction, operational management, and compliance with regulatory standards.

They will lead and develop the DFI team to deliver its mission to the federation's member organisations, to work with people with disabilities, to implement the UN CRPD, and to deliver a vision of an Ireland where people with disabilities are participating fully in all aspects of society.

The CEO will ensure DFI leads and implements policies at a national level to support people with disabilities to have a full life. The role of advocacy is one of the central tenets of DFI, as is fostering self-advocacy by people with disabilities. The CEO will ensure DFI maintains and grows its reputation across Government, the Oireachtas, throughout its growing membership, with disabled people and their families, as well as through growing public awareness.

Requirements 

Suitably qualified and motivated candidates will be operating at or near CEO standing with an exemplary track record of leadership, strategic thinking, advocacy, critical analysis and decision making in a non-profit and / or public service environment.

The ideal candidate will be a credible advocate for DFI's mission and have appropriate financial acumen coupled with the experience of managing and developing high-performance teams. As well as possessing a high level of emotional intelligence, they must be a dynamic and visionary leader, and an exceptional communicator with the capacity to engage, inspire, and influence all stakeholders.

A commitment to the mission, vision and values of DFI will be essential and an awareness of the evolution and development of DFI.
