Press-releases

DFI along with other Irish disability activists and organisations,  have signed a “Statement on the rights of persons with disabilities during COVID-19”. Read in full statement.

We say Ireland must actively protect the rights of people with disabilities during COVID-19.

We must make the promises in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, UN CRPD, come to life. We ratified the Convention so we expect equal, inclusive and non-discriminatory treatment for all during this pandemic.  This is especially important in healthcare.

The statement also stresses the need for;

  • person-centered planning/decision-making
  • accessible information
  • support to carers and families
  • community + social welfare supports for people with disabilities
  • and other issues.
