Reports

Mr John Moloney, T.D., Minister for Disability and Mental Health, published the fourth annual report of the independent monitoring group for A Vision for Change on Thursday 1st July 2010.

The Independent Monitoring Group consists of a number of professional, voluntary and statutory organisations including the NDA. This monitoring group reviewed A Vision for Change which was adopted in 2006 as the government’s Mental Health policy commitment.

The report concludes that there has been little substantial progress in 2009 in implementing A Vision for Change. Amongst the problems identified are unsatisfactory management structures in the HSE and underfunding, as illustrated by poor performance in establishing fully developed and staffed Community Mental Health Teams. Also the involvement of service users in the planning, development and implementation of this Government commitment has been far too limited.
