The DFI led Independent Living Skills, Community Healthcare West Project and Healthy Ireland County Galway are regional, and county specific projects covering Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. They evolved from the DFI led European Project Unlocking Freedom through Adult Education; The role of adult education in supporting the de-institutionalisation of people with disabilities in the community

Theses project bring voluntary disability organisations providing services for people with intellectual disabilities together with every Local Development Company and Education Training Board in the region.

As part of these projects, DFI brought in the disability specific local expertise of the voluntary disability organisations of each county, to delivery Disability Inclusion training to staff of the Education Training Boards and Development Countries accross the West.
