QQI Level 8 Project Management

‘Project Management: Initiation, Implementation and Realisation for Change in Community and Voluntary Organisations’

This QQI Level 8 course provided by Graduate and Professional Studies at the University of Limerick in conjunction with the Disability Federation of Ireland.

The course designed to provide learners with a comprehensive introduction to project management so that they feel confident in undertaking their own successful projects.

Who would benefit from undertaking this course?

The course is aimed at Administrators; Board Members; Development Workers; Managers; Service Users and Volunteers for Community and Voluntary Organisations.


To give learners an understanding of the methods and techniques to manage projects of any type from their earliest stage through to their completion. In addition, it will help the learner develop a number of skills such as planning, problem solving, team building, leadership and communication skills. The learner will be introduced to methods and techniques used to take an initial concept from project definition and execution to the rolling out of end results.


The programme consists of five Saturdays’ tuition staggered over ten to twelve weeks with group assignments based on the learning from each of the class days.

By the end of this course learners will be able to define project management and understand the reasons for using it; how to make a project successful; understand the different stages of a project’s life cycle; create an effective project plan and understand each stage; be knowledgeable on the different charts and diagrams that can be used to help plan a project; know how to predict and manage risk and how to maintain the projects progress and efficiency.
