‘Problem Solving: Translating Creativity and analysis into practical solutions to service Challenges for Community and Voluntary Organisations’

This QQI Level 8 course provided by Graduate and Professional Studies at the University of Limerick in conjunction with the Disability Federation of Ireland.

The course introduces problem solving as part of an organisations continuous improvement and development strategy. As such, it is a practical application course that builds on the ideas proven in the dynamic business world. The DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) based problem solving method can produce significant improvements for an organisation.

Who would benefit from undertaking this course?

The course is aimed at Administrators; Board Members; Development Workers and Managers of Community and Voluntary Organisations.

Aims:

For participants to develop an understanding of Problem Solving; to identify the skills needed to participate in strategic problem solving; to explore difficulties that may be encountered and to identify structured strategies that may be used as part of solutions to service challenges.

Outline:

The programme consists of five Saturdays’ tuition staggered over ten to twelve weeks with group assignments based on the learning from each of class.

Day 2: Define: Problem Selection and Definition

Day 3: Measure: Graphical and Analytical Tools

Day 4: Analyse and Improve

Day 5: Creative Approaches to Problem Solving
